Description

Pleaides, or Al-Thurayya as it is locally known (الثريا), is an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. It's only 444 light-years away from Earth. As for the California nebula, it is an emission nebula located in another constellation, Perseus, and located around 1,000 light-years away from our planet.

A much younger cluster with some nebulosity is seen in this image as well. While Pleiades stars cluster is thought to be at least 75 million years old, IC 348 cluster's age is only 2 million years old.

I took this image from a Bortle 4 zone that I traveled to during September's new moon, and collected the data over three nights. I am really impressed with this simple setup, especially when targeting areas with dust clouds

Clear skies everyone.
